Competition Information

  • 1.  General Information

The 21st annual National Judges Cup Gymnastics Championships will take place in Phoenix, AZ on Friday, January 7 through Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Phoenix Convention Center.  The National Judges Cup is the only traveling national invitational in the country and continues to grow each year as we visit different states and cities.

Join us in Phoenix to help us celebrate the 21st anniversary of the National Judges Cup and the New Year at the 2011 event.  


  • 2.  Registration Form and Deadlines

The official National Judges Cup Registration Form and Team Roster Form are required for registration. Forms can be obtained online here or by calling 317.891.8260. The completed form and total registration fees due must be postmarked by December 3, 2010.  Any fees received after this date will be accessed a $10.00 late fee per gymnast. Team rosters are requested to be sent by email in word or excel format to info@judgescup.com and received by the registration deadline date.


  • 3.  Participants and Registration Fees

All USA Gymnastics athlete members Levels 2-10/Open including Prep Op are eligible to compete at the National Judges Cup Championships for individual and team titles.

*Traveling teams must commit to 2 days of competition and must note which days on the registration form - Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.

 

SPECIAL NOTE: Teams with more than 15 gymnasts per level will be split into 2 different squads requiring a minimum of 2 coaches.  Teams with more than 20 gymnasts per level will be split into 2 different sessions competing at different times.  Teams may determine their own split of gymnasts in either scenario.


  • 6.  Competition Format

The 2011 National Judges Cup Championships will consist of a modified traditional format for all levels.
MODIFIED TRADITIONAL FORMAT (warm-up; compete): The open stretch, timed warm-ups and competition are conducted in one gym in which there is only one set of apparatus. The timed warm-ups immediately precede competition on each event (this format eliminates the requirement of a 30-second touch warm-up).

  • 7.  Team Competion

Registration for the team competition is $45.00 per team per level as indicated on the Official Registration Form. Team rankings will be determined by the total of the top three (3) scores from each event for each team registered. There is no designation of team members unless clubs enter more than one team.

The Phoenix Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, welcomes more than one million guests each year from across the nation and all around the world.

Travelers arriving from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will find a variety of convenient ground transportation options just minutes from the convention center and downtown Phoenix hotels.

METRO Light Rail
A westbound/northbound light rail station is located south of Symphony Hall on Washington Street between Second and Third streets.

An eastbound light rail station also is located south of Symphony Hall on Jefferson Street between Third and Fourth streets.

Valley Metro bus service
Frequent bus service is available between all three airport terminals and downtown Phoenix, served by Valley Metro’s Red Line route. Less than a half-hour bus ride from the airport, Valley Metro’s Central Station is a short walk to most downtown hotels and the convention center, and is also served by the Downtown DASH, a circulator shuttle that can drop you and your belongings just steps away from your final lodging destination. Rental cars
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport offers an array of options for car rental, hosting more than 10 major rental-car companies out of the airport’s convenient Rental Car Center. A rental-car shuttle serves all companies from the airport to the center, making it easy to get where you need to go — conveniently and hassle-free. Learn more about renting a car at the airport.

Keep in mind that some car-rental companies do not have counters in the Rental Car Center. However, van pick-up for customers of those companies is available at the Rental Car Center as well, so regardless of your chosen rental company, one shuttle from the airport will get you on your way!

Other ground transportation

Taxis - Taxi terminal access is as follows: Terminal 2: North curbside, Terminal 3: North curbside and Terminal 4: Level 1, north curbside.

Rates remain the same regardless of company, number of passengers and number of bags. The first mile is $5. Each additional mile is $2.10. Each hour of a traffic delay is $21. The minimum fare is $15. Each per trip airport surcharge is $

Limousines - Limousines offer airport-to-door service. For-hire limousines are available on the south curbs of Terminals 3 & 4 and just east of the north curb of Terminal 2. Rates vary according to destinations but typically range from $35 to $85.

Van terminal access is as follows: Terminal 2: North curbside, Terminal 3: North and south curbside and Terminal 4: Level 1, north and south curbside.

Courtesy Vehicles - A courtesy telephone center for many hotels and resorts is located adjacent to the baggage claim areas in each terminal.

  • 10.  AWARDS

ALL participants of the 2011 National Judges Cup Championships will receive an all-around award and be recognized on the awards stand. Placement awards will be given for all levels. The R&P recommended age groups will be used as a guideline however age groups may be broken down further depending on the number registered in each age group in each session. Placement awards will be given to a minimum of half the number of participants in each age group.

Team awards will be awarded to 1st to 3rd place teams for all sessions and all levels. A National Champion banner will be awarded to each first place team.


  • 11. EQUIPMENT

All equipment will be supplied by American Athletic, Inc. Any specific equipment questions should be directed to the AAI representative on site.


  • 12. MISCELLANEOUS COMPETITION DETAILS
  • All current rules of USA Gymnastics J.O. Program will be used for all levels of competition.
  • Prep Op rules will follow the USA Gymnastics Region 1 rules.
  • Floor Exercise Music: Coaches are responsible for bringing their gymnast's music to the designated music table, properly cued and in competition order. The coach is responsible for giving the Music Coordinator the start cue. All Floor Exercise music must be clearly marked with the Athlete's first name, last name and team name.
